Halloween movie marathons are officially upon us! Pumpkin patches, haunted houses galore and everyone is starting to pick their Halloween costumes? Sounds like October to me! But while you might want a good scare, or a fun day picking out the perfect pumpkin to carve, LA is still filled with life outside of the holiday, that is just as wonderful! Here are 10 cool things to do in LA this October:
Hocus Pocus at El Capitan Theatre
September 26th – October 7th
Best Halloween movie of ALL time, Hocus Pocus will be returning to the big screen, thanks to Disney, at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood! Don’t miss this classic that stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy.
California Avocado Festival
October 4th – 6th
Did someone say guacamole?! The California Avocado Festival will have plenty of avocado dishes for you to try along with 75 music acts spread amongst 4 stages, plus an Avocado expo tent, and the chance to learn ALL about avocados. Best part is that you can attend for free!
Ever dream of running, biking, or rollerblading down the streets of LA? Well your wish has been granted. CicLAvia shuts down quite a few streets so you can walk, bike or roller skate through downtown and it is also free to attend!

Panel discussions, events, plus meet and greet opportunities with some of the biggest celebrities and people in the entertainment industry! LA Comic Con will be at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Le Dîner en Blanc
If you can get your hands on tickets to Le Dîner en Blanc, you’ll get to bask in a fancy picnic and dance for couples who are dressed in white. You also bring your own food and it does occurs at a secret public location, you just won’t know it until the last minute.
Westside Food and Wine Festival
The Westside Food and Wine Festival is not only indoor and outdoor, but will have delicious food, wine, beer and spirits from 25 different places. It is a kid friendly event being held at Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Westside. Perfect for a date or taking the whole family!
October 18th – 19th
With unlimited food, beer, wine and spirits tastings, there’s not much more you can ask for from The Taste! The festival also has cooking demonstrations and it’s all sponsored by the Los Angeles Times. Just remember to leave the kiddos at home for this one because it’s 21 and over only!
Every year, people come together to do something unheard of and walk around LA. But of course it’s for a good cause, the AIDS Walk Los Angeles fundraiser is put on to fight HIV/AIDS. The 10k starts at Grand Park with a ceremony and then ends with music and food options for you to refuel at the fountain.
Strut Your Mutt
Dog lovers are going to love this pawfect event! Strut Your Mutt is a family-friendly festival for dogs, their owners, and even those who wish they had a dog but don’t. In addition to cute puppies running around Exposition Park for the event, there will be activities and food trucks.
Day of the Dead Exhibits

Grand Park will connect with the dead on Día De Los Muertos, when it will have 50 amazing altars and art exhibitions to honor those that are no longer with us. You have two options for exploring, go on a solo adventure, or take a tour led by artists that last about 30 minutes.
