7 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Workout

7 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Workout

We’ve all been there. There are countless time when I want to stay in bed and just watch TV instead of working out, even though I know I’ll probably feel bad about it later. I’ve been so busy with work and so unbelievably exhausted lately, that I’ve skipped out on exercising more this month than any other month this year. And like most things, it’s really hard to start again once you stop. So here’s 7 ways to motivate yourself to workout!

1. Get some inspiration

I like to follow fitness bloggers and yogis on Instagram so I can get a good dose of #fitspo. Seeing other people being active and looked so tone definitely makes me want to get up and get active.

2. Set goals

If you want to run a 5k or lose 10 pounds, those goals can motivate you to work out. Write them down and put them in your calendar so you can make sure that you’re on track. My goal is to gain muscle tone and strength so I will be adding in some weight training to my fitness routine.

3. Sign up for group fitness classes

When you sign up for a class with a group, there’s a level of commitment involved – especially if you’ve already paid for it. I love going to yoga classes and dance classes, like Zumba. I love the feeling afterwards and it’s so much fun to dance with a group.

4. Challenge yourself

Sign up for a fitness challenge or create your own. You can even download free apps that give you a certain set of exercises to do on a daily basis. Some challenges are a month long and also help you maintain a healthy diet.

5. Get a workout buddy

Sometimes you just need a friend (or partner) to help you get moving! When my fiance and I go hiking together, we like to plan out our food, hydration, and outfits the night before to make sure we follow through with it. I always make sure to bring a bottle (or two) of Propel on every hike, it’s the only water with enough electrolytes to put back what you lose in sweat.

6. Try something new

Perhaps you’re tired of going to the gym or running on a treadmill every time. Maybe it’s time for something new? What about rock climbing or signing up for a color run? Have you tried Pure Barre yet? It’s fun!!

7. Get paid to workout

Sounds like a scam? Well, this app Pact creates an incentive to work out by giving those who work out the ability to earn cash, from those members who don’t.

So do whatever it is you have to do to get yourself moving and motivated to work out! You know you’ll feel better after and you know it’s good for you. Most of the time, you just have to tell yourself to get started and once you’re there, you’ll quickly remember why you love working out.
