Meet Stephanie Day, Photographer and Founder of Ographr

Stephanie Day

Before I even met Stephanie Day, I heard of Ographr and it was the solution to every blogger’s problem! It’s essentially the “uber for photographers” and when I found out that her company that provided photographers on demand, I was ecstatic and excited to meet her!

I met Stephanie on our first shoot which happened to be a yoga one in Malibu. She has such a great eye and love her energy! I’m so happy to introduce you to Stephanie Day and tell you more about her company, Ographr.

Tell us about yourself in a tweet.

I’m a photographer and entrepreneur married to my co-founder Tristan. I love anything creative and bit of a workaholic.

Where are you from?

I’m from Arizona near Phoenix.

What brought you to LA?

I visited LA with my mom when I was 16 and knew it was the place for me! During college, I lived at home with my parents, worked multiple jobs and saved a ton of money. I decided to make the leap in 2008 and now can’t imagine living anywhere else.

What has been your favorite LA experience?

Hands down, our wedding! Tristan and I lived in Malibu for two years and absolutely love everything about it. We got married at a small secluded winery called Cielo Farms in Malibu with the best wine, and had a wood fired pizza made by a local vendor Olive Wood Pizza, which is seriously amazing! Cielo Farms is a great place to visit for wine tastings, especially in the spring when the grape vines are bright green.

What inspired you to be a photographer?

I’ve been painting since I was little, and got into photography to take pictures of people to paint. I naturally fell in love with photography and refined my camera skills over the years.

Why do you love photography?

I love being able to capture moments and memories that are priceless.

What inspired you to create Ographr?

When we got our photos back from our wedding photographer, 4 months after our wedding, we were very disappointed. I tried booking another photographer to try and redeem our subpar bride & groom photos but the whole process was a nightmare!

I created Ographr to help make booking a photographer easier and affordable with faster fool-proof results. We remind photographers what they need to prepare for each type of photoshoot so they don’t forget to bring important items that could potentially ruin a shoot.

Editing photos is a separate charge, this lowers the price point to customers and delivers photos within 48hrs. Once the customers have the photos they can then decide which are their favorites and if they even need editing at all. This allows Ographr to be an affordable solution for anyone to book a photographer, for any occasion and capture memories they might have missed because it was cost prohibitive.

Also I noticed that my photographer friends also have trouble finding steady work no matter how talented they are. We connect quality photographers with quality customers so they can make a living from what they love doing.

What is your advice to women who want to start their own business?

Do a lot of research before jumping head first into a new business. Ask yourself who, what, why and how. Who are your customers in detail, and would you be a customer? I think it’s important that founders create something that they would actually use or spend your hard earn money on. What problems will your business be solving? How are you going to attract customers or users? Most important, why are you inspired to start your business? I love the book “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek and would totally recommend any new entrepreneur to read this.

I love this idea and was on my way to download the app. Unfortunately, the Apple Store says that this isn’t available in the US!
